FIVE EASY STEPS!
Read rules, Get ranked, Choose championships, Build your teams, & Enter
Equipment
- Casters are responsible for bringing their own equipment to compete with.
- All rods are to be single hand casting rods.
- Maximum rod length 10 feet.
- Maximum rod weight 6wt.
- Lines must be attached to the reels.
- Fly Lines can be any brand or weight as long as they are floating lines. The floating fly line must be one solid section and a length of not less than 80' long from leader to backing. No shooting heads!
- Any length or type of leader may be used.
- The fly expressed in these rules will be yarn. No hooks or any other item will be allowed on the end of the leader, except for the yarn itself. Casters may use any size or color of yarn.
- No adding weight or any other objects to the yarn, fly lines, or leaders.
- Custom rods need to be approved by personnel of ALL CAST FLY CASTING CHAMPIONSHIPS before competing.
Rules
- Casters must start each round with the fly in their hand.
- Casters must start with the fly line on the reel, meaning no fly line shall be touching the ground.
- The Course Judge will then ask you if you are ready and then he/she will say start the time. Then the Caster may start pulling line off the reel in any fashion and begin to cast the course.
- Each Caster will cast at every target once in order from closest to farthest, and then complete two long distance casts.
- If the fly touches the course in front of the casting box while casting at the targets then it will be marked at that spot and you will be forced to go to the next target, don't let your fly touch the course until you are ready to lay it down for a score.
- Tangles may be addressed between lay downs, or by bringing the fly back to hand without touching the course.
- Casters must stay in the boundaries of the casting box to get scores.
- No practice casts once entering the course.
- No changing rods, fly lines, or flies after entering the course.
- If the fly falls off the caster is responsible for putting another one on in less than 60 seconds so be prepared.
- If a rod breaks while competing the caster is responsible for having a spare, there will be a place to put your spare rod at the edge of the casting box. Casting must start in less than 60 seconds from the time the rod breaks, caster will restart the course where they left off. The spare must meet Championship rules.
- After completing the course and scores are added, you must step out of the casting box to the off deck area so the next Caster can get ready.
Scoring
- There will be two rounds in each Championship a qualifier round and the short round. The top twenty scores from the qualifier round will compete in the second (short) round for cash and prizes.
- Each entry can qualify for the short round.
- The top twenty will compete in order from the lowest score to the highest score in the short round.
- The combined scores of the qualifier round and the short round will decide the winners of each Championship.
- Scoring will be 500 points for the center ring, 300 points for the middle ring, and 100 points for the outer ring of the target. Zero (0) points will be awarded for being outside of the target.
- Each Caster will complete two long-distance casts for each entry and every round, only one (best) of the two long distance casts will be scored from each round.
- The total length of the distance cast will be measured in feet and inches and then X by 10
- Target scores and distance scores will be added for a combined score in each round.
- During the target casts, the fly (yarn) will be marked and scored when and where it hits the course in front of the casting box.
- The distance cast will be marked and scored where the fly (yarn) stops on the ground.
- The fly must stay in bounds to receive a score, the fly can not be drug back into bounds.
- Each entry will be timed. Times will vary depending on the course set up. If the time ends while a Caster is competing then they will be scored for that entry at the moment the time ends.
All Casters must get a ranking #.
This ranking guide line below is for Casters to rank themselves. It is important for Casters to take the time to find out their average long distance cast. Cast several times down a six foot wide lane and then measure exactly from where you stand to where your cast ends in feet and inches. Only measure the casts that stay in bounds of the six foot wide lane. Then take that average and rank yourself from the guide line below. Casters will be responsible to provide their ranking number when registering for each event. You also can get two ranking #'s, one for right handed casts and the other with left handed casts.
Ranking guide line (based on using a 9'-10' 6wt. fly rod with a floating WF line, "not a shooting head line" ).
- A number #4 ranking averages 0 to 40 feet on a controlled distance cast.
- A number #5 ranking averages 50 to 60 feet on a controlled distance cast.
- A number #6 ranking averages 60 to 70 feet on a controlled distance cast.
- A number #7 ranking averages 70 to 80 feet on a controlled distance cast.
- A number #8 ranking averages 80 to 90 feet on a controlled distance cast.
- A number #9 ranking averages 90 to 100 feet on a controlled distance cast.
- A number #10 ranking averages 100 + feet on a controlled distance cast.
